Before starting a family with my husband, I was incredibly naive about how much work it would take to raise children. I mean, I always knew it was going to be hard work, but WOW was there a lot I didn’t know! I didn’t realize that parenthood is full of second guessing yourself, pulling your hair out, and googling things you never thought you would have to before. Along the way you start to see how much you, as a person, have changed and grew as well. We’re all just sort of learning as we go, but I really wish I knew these 5 things before having my son!

We are told not to announce our pregnancies until we’re at least 12 weeks along, because what if, God forbid, you have a miscarriage. What an embarrassment that would be to share with people in your life that you have had a failed pregnancy. People are going to think so differently of you! (I say this with extreme sarcasm). For some odd reason, it feels shameful to discuss a miscarriage when it happens. As if it were our own fault that our bodies weren’t able to proceed with the pregnancy.
I struggled with deciding whether or not to share my recent experience. I am still dealing with the grief of losing mine and my husband’s second child. In the end, I decided to share my story in the hopes of helping someone else who may be struggling with their own miscarriage experience. As uncomfortable as this feels to write about this, if I could just help one other person, this post will be completely worth it.

Let me start by saying a diaper bag is essential! Don’t just stuff your purse with a few diapers and call it good, because you will most definitely be kicking yourself later! Also, you may want to ditch your purse all together and just put everything you need into a diaper bag (it’ll be less things to carry).
When my son was a newborn I didn’t have a clue what to pack in a diaper bag for him. I just sort of threw whatever came to mind into the bag and hoped for the best. I learned pretty quickly that it’s better to be prepared and over pack, than not to pack enough.
As your child grows, things you pack into your bag will change. Remember, you know what your child needs more than I do. Simply use this list as a guide to get you started! You may find something that you didn’t even think of before.
